Clay and Amanda have booked an Airbnb in Long Island so remote that their GPS won’t recognize the roads. They have two teenage children: Archie and Rose. Their staycation has been interrupted when the owners of the house G.H. and Ruth, in their sixties, come knocking on their door one night to ask them if they could stay in their own house. They’re black and wealthy, but Clay and Amanda have doubts and suspicions. They eventually find out that there is a blackout in New York and the wealthy couple seek refuge in their own rental home. Their bond turns from suspicions to a solid one when unexpected things come up.
I enjoyed the storyline of the book. It’s about family, racism, class, and of course, a post-apocalyptic scene. The book is open-ended and I’m pretty sure that there would be a second book after this.
